2009 Reunion Tours and Activities All tours are optional and require minimum participation. The cost of each tour includes admissions, guide service, transportation, taxes, fees, and tolls. Gratuities for drivers and guides are not included and are at the discretion of the tour participants. If minimum participation is not met on any tour, that tour may be cancelled and monies refunded less applicable cancellation charges. CANTIGNY MUSEUM & HISTORIC NAPERVILLE SETTLEMENT, 9:00AM, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2009 This Early Bird Tour is to the Cantigny Museum which is a tribute to the U.S. Army’s 1st Division. It was the dream of its founder, Colonel Robert R. McCormick, former editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune, who wanted to preserve the memories and service of the 1st Division. The Museum and 500 acre estate is named after the French village that was freed by the Big Red One during World War I. This museum ranks among some of the best interactive and informative military museums in the country. Lunch has been arranged by Terry and Sue Jelinek at the Naperville VFW. Following lunch, there will be tours of historic Naperville Settlement before returning to the hotel. Cost: $65 per person based on 30 person minimum. Lunch included.
GREAT LAKES NAVAL TRAINING CENTER – 9:00AM, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 - Again for the Early Birds, the base was authorized by Congress in 1904 and it welcomed its first recruit in July 1911. During WWI, the base was a major recruit training center and during WWII the base was one of the navy’s most important centers for both basic and advanced training. In addition to touring the base, there will be a memorial service especially planned for our group. Lunch will be at the Port O Call restaurant that overlooks Lake Michigan. You must sign up for this tour before September 6th as names of participants need to be provided to base security. Photo ID’s are also needed to get on base.

CHICAGO’S MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY – 9:00AM, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2009 - The museum is highly acclaimed throughout the world and is now home to the WWII German submarine U505. Captured off the coast of Africa, it is the only German submarine to be captured during WWII. It was built to only last but four years, but it has been moved, very carefully, from an outdoor exhibit to a new, spectacular underground interactive exhibit space. It is now a memorial to the American sailors who gave their lives during the war. The on board tour of the submarine is not handicap accessible.
Cost: $60 per person based on 30 person minimum. Lunch will be on your own at the museum.
DRURY LANE THEATER DINNER & SHOW – 5:45PM, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2009 - Be part of the sparkling lights and glamour of Broadway at the award winning Drury Lane Theater at it presents Cabaret. Set in Berlin’s sultry Kit Kat Club before the Nazis rise to power in the late 1920’s, Cabaret depicts the intertwined stories of an English cabaret singer, an American writer, a rich German politician, and a Jewish fruit vendor who find themselves caught in a tumultuous and changing society. The Theater is a glamorous place all in its own, with its spacious proscenium style and plush seating
The cost for this is included in the Basic Reunion Package and everyone will need to indicate on the Registration Form their choice of dinner entrée, beef or chicken.
CHIGACO TOUR FOR VETERANS – 10:00AM, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2009 - This narrated tour will include the veteran’s memorial at Soldier Field, statues of General Grant and President Lincoln, the beautiful lakefront, the Magnificent Mile, the stunning new Millennium Park, the Water Tower that survived the great fire, and Navy Pier, a former training center and now the top attraction in Chicago.
Cost: $45 per person based on 30 person minimum. Lunch will be on your own at Navy Pier.
REUNION PHOTO SESSION – 5:00PM, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2009 - There is no cost to have your photo taken and included in the Reunion Memory Book which can be purchased. This is a good way to remember the reunion and people too.
BANQUET & DANCE – 6:30PM, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2009 - Our banquet will include a three entrée buffet to satisfy the pickiest of pallets. This is a no tie affair but no jeans please. Dancing will follow dinner with music provided by a DJ. Cost: Included in the Basic Reunion Package.
MEMORIAL SERVICE & FAREWELL BRUNCH – 8:30AM, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2009 - The Association’s Memorial Service will be followed by a Farewell Brunch that concludes with the Mystery Box Auction. Last year’s successful bidder will be supplying the Mystery Box and a lot of fun is to be had. Cost: Included in the Basic Reunion Package.
