

Rear Adm. Sarver was a native of Crookston, Minn., and a resident of
Norfolk since 1967. He was the son of the late Alice Sarver Turner and
Benjamin Franklin Sarver. He was a member of Larchmont United Methodist
Church, Norfolk.
Rear Adm. Sarver was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of
1935. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II on several
destroyers/cruisers. He was the senior recovery officer for the early Gemini
space flights. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Norfolk
Host Lions Club, member of the board of directors of Goodwill Industries.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Etheridge Sarver; five daughters,
Sue Sarver Lanigan of East Aurora, N.Y., Margaret Thorn Rawls of Chicago,
Sally Sarver Smith of Goldsboro, N.C., Susan Thorn Marr of Hampton and
Barbara Sarver Morris of Midland, Texas; a son, James William Sarver of
Virginia Beach; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. Jerry Campbell. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk
Chapel, is handling arrangements.
