Captain Howell Dies

My sister Becky Hopkins and I wanted to write to let you know that our father, Captain Jay Stanley Howell, who was the commanding officer on the OK City from 1969 to 1971 died December 31, 2001.

My father had many wonderful memories of his time in Japan, and shared many stories about that time. My sister Becky was in Yokosuka during dad's tour of duty, and both she and my mother remembered that time fondly.

We have just discovered your website and wanted to let any old shipmates know of dad's death, but also, to let you know how excited we were to find the website. Keep up the good work.
